‘NFF Elections Today A Nullity – Court Will Set It Aside’ –PFAN

Chairman Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN) Task Force and member Board of Trustee of the Nigerian footballers body, Harrison Jalla, has dismissed the NFF Elections billed to hold in Benin City, Edo State today (Friday) describing it as a nullity.

Jalla said this in an interview on Raypower 100.5 FM sports show on Friday morning.

Recall in an exclusive chat with The PUNCH published on September 20, Jalla opposed the idea of state FA chairmen taking part in elections while still keeping their position.

This led to PFAN heading to court to ask for an amendment of the 2010 NFF statutes.

And on September 15 Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja halted the NFF elections billed today, ruling that all parties should maintain status quo and adjourned further proceedings till October 31.

Jalla posited that what PFAN is pressing for is equal representation for all the five statutory bodies in the NFF concerning voting rights and representation on the NFF board.

And ahead of today’s elections in Benin, Jalla told Raypower 100.5 FM sports show:”Nothing is happening in Benin there is no order of court, there is no ruling that said the elections should go on so all they are doing in Benin today is a nullity. The court only asked parties to come back on the 5th of October but they are in a hurry to do elections.

“Let them do the elections I would go back to the court and see the outcome. You can’t disenfranchise people and get Scot free with that. We are entitled to participate in governance NIgeria Football Federation. So when a group feels they know it all and want to continue to shut others out this is what they will get.

“I’m promising you all what they are doing in Benin today is a nullity, it has no place in law. That ruling didn’t say go and do elections, it says come back on the 5th. The order is clear, comeback on the 5th, they are in a hurry because they want to reproduce themselves, they don’t want to give opportunity for others to participate. That’s why they are going to do the elections.

“Why not wait to hear the ruling on the 5th, they are rushing to do elections which they took to the Court of Appeal and the Court of Appeal says ok we are staying this order but come back on the 5th for ruling and you are using the window to do elections.

“All what will happen in Benin today is a nullity, there’s nothing happening there because the law is the law. So the purpose of what they are doing is elections to reproduce themselves and that will not stand.”
