Vodacom heads to court after operating license get revoked

Vodacom heads to court after operating license get revokedFollowing threats of withdrawal of license from Lesotho Telecommunications Authority, Vodacom Lesotho on Thursday said it will take the matter to court to stop the regulator.

The regulator made it known that it would revoke the mobile giant operator’s license for noncompliance.

However, Vodacom accused the regulator of being hostile towards the company.

The main cause of this matter is that Vodacom had refused to stop using the board chairman’s sister-in-law as an external auditor.

Vodacom Lesotho CEO Philip Amoateng stated that the company was shocked by the drastic action the regulator took against the company.

He indicated that the company had gone to the High Court of Lesotho to tender an urgent application to have the matter reviewed and set aside the decisions which include the R134 million fine.

The company said it had 14 days to challenge the decision.

Amoateng accused the regulator for violating its own rules, and downgrading his company’s efforts to find an amicable solution to the dispute.

Vodacom said the regulator was treating the company with hostility.

It said the only option it has now is seek redress in the court in order to prevent more damage to the brand, Vodacom’s reputation, and the interests of stakeholders, including its customers, shareholders, and employees.
