Malema wants cop’s testimony in assault case to be covered by media
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema said the police officer who wants to give evidence against him and the party MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi should do that in the presence of the media so that proceedings will be recorded.
Malema and Ndlozi appeared at the Randburg Magistrate Court on Tuesday, to answer to allegations of assault.
The duo are accused of assaulting a police colonel at the funeral ceremony of struggle icon Winnie-Madikizela-Mandela’s in 2018.
The magistrate had to call on several members of the press to his chambers asking why they did not let the court know on time that they wanted to take visuals, audio, and pictures during Tuesday’s proceedings.
Some media companies responded that they were notified at the last minute about this case.
Due to this, the the magistrate said a media application would have to be filled but the application will be heard later.
Malema was displeased with this. He is of the opinion that the world has to see his accuser and hear his claims of assault.
“It’s either you cover the white man today and you cover us after. And if you can’t cover the white man, therefore you can’t cover us. We must be covered all of us,” he said.
At the same time, EFF supporters continued to protest outside in the courtyard.
