Newcastle threaten to beat Manchester United to signing of 22-year-old Frenchman in January

Manchester United look to strengthen in January

Manchester United are looking to add talent to their ranks, particularly in central midfield, under new boss Ralf Rangnick.

The German boss joined the club last month on an interim basis until the end of the season following the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but is set to remain for another two years as a consultant when a new manager is found.

As such, he is likely to have significant sway in transfer dealings done at Old Trafford during that time, while his philosophy will surely be followed by the club in order to get the best out of their investment.

This means a high press with energetic midfielders, and while Fred and Scott McTominay are good players, there is certainly room for improvement, with RB Leipzig’s Amadou Haidara and Marseille’s Boubacar Kamara both lined up as potential additions, according to reports.

However, they could be beaten to the punch on Kamara.

Newcastle threatening to hijack Kamara move

With Manchester United plotting a free transfer for Kamara in the summer, Eddie Howe and co. are ready to tear that plan up by submitting an offer for the Frenchman in January, according to Spanish outlet Marca.

As per the report, the Magpies are preparing a 10 million pound offer for the 22-year-old, and with no sign of him signing a new contract, Marseilles may be tempted to cash in.

This would leave Manchester United weighing up whether to match the bid, or watch one of their targets walk away to a fellow Premier League side. Would they be willing to match the offer?
