Newcastle agree fee with Arsenal for Joe Willock, personal terms not finalised

Newcastle look set to sign Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock on a permanent basis this summer.

Willock impresses with Newcastle

Willock would, of course, spend the second half of the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Newcastle following a struggle for regular minutes at Arsenal.

In his short spell up north, Willock would quickly become a fan favourite, largely due to the number of points he won for the Magpies.

In just 14 outings for Newcastle, the central midfielder would score a staggering eight goals, seven of which came in his final seven outings for Steve Bruce’s side.

So, given what a key figure he was for Newcastle last term, it did not come as much of a surprise to see Willock linked with a move to the Magpies once again this summer.

Steve Bruce would even come out and confirm last month that the club were indeed trying to bring him back to St James’ Park:

“You have to ask Arsenal, it’s their decision and it’s the player’s decision.

“Of course we want him back, he did great with us and gives us another dimension in midfield that we haven’t got.

“We’ll keep bashing away at it.”

And now, as mentioned above, a deal for Willock does look to be nearing completion

The Athletic are reporting that Newcastle have agreed a fee with Arsenal for the Englishman.

Said fee is understood to be in excess of £20m, but they do also add that personal terms still need to be finalised.
