Netflix has unveiled three Indian documentary films and series for 2022, including a new docu-film and the next edition of an existing film. The new Netflix documentary, Mumbai Mafia: Police vs The Underworld, comes from the team behind Crime Stories: India Detectives. It follows the battle between the Mumbai Police “encounter specialists” and the organized crime syndicate D-Company in the 1990s. Meanwhile, Netflix revealed that the next chapter of Indian Predator is titled Indian Predator : The Diary of a Serial Killer, and is produced by India Today. Finally, the documentary about Nayanthara’s marriage now has a title: Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale.

Find out more about Netflix’s two new Indian documentaries (though technically one of them is a UK production) –

Documentary feature film Mumbai Mafia: Police vs. Underworld follows the battle for the future of Mumbai, which raged on the city streets between the police and organized crime in the 1990s. On one side: D-Company, an infamous gangster group known to be a ruthless and violent operation that uses extortion, racketeering, drugs and finally terrorism to hold the city in a bulldog grip.

On the other: a rising band of ‘Encounter Specialists’, a team of mustachioed nonconformist police tasked with regaining control of the streets. In this immersive, cinematic documentary feature, visceral interviews with the officers at the heart of the fight will guide the police narrative, unraveling the psychology behind their tactics as the situation on the streets escalates.

Morgan Matthews and Sophie Jones of Minnow Films serve as executive producers, with Francis Longhurst and Raaghav Dar as series directors, and Supriya Sobti Gupta and Batul Mukhtiar as series producers.

In Indian Predator: The Diary of a Serial Killer, when a beloved young journalist goes missing in Allahabad, the whole community comes together to uncover the truth. In the process, they find an unlikely suspect – the husband of a small local politician. Just when the police thought the case was closed, they find a newspaper containing a list of 13 names as well as that of the deceased journalist.

Chandni Ahlawat Dabas is the executive producer, Dheeraj Jindal is the series director, Sudeep Nigam is the writer, and Moumita Sen is the creative producer. Indian Predator: Diary of a Serial Killer is an India Today Originals production.

And the only Indian documentary on Netflix that we knew of before –

Nayanthara recently got married in a fairytale wedding to filmmaker Vignesh Shivan. As they are both about to begin this new phase of their lives, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale gives a comprehensive look into their life, marriage and beyond. We try to find out who the intensely private Nayanthara is and how Vignesh made her harness the full power of her talent and love, as an artist and a woman.

Gautham Vasudev Menon (Thanga Meengal) is the director. Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale is a production of The Rowdy Pictures.
