‘Mourinho was right’: Spurs fans convinced Tanganga has found his role following win over Arsenal

Tottenham’s supporters have taken to social media in numbers this afternoon, to react to the latest display of defender Japhet Tanganga.

Son makes the difference

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men were of course back in action a short time ago.

Ahead of the fast-approaching new campaign, the Lilywhites kicked their preparations up a notch with a friendly showdown with North London rivals Arsenal.

Spurs headed into proceedings amid a solid spell of pre-season form, having followed up successive victories by recovering from two goals down to secure a hard-fought draw with Chelsea last time out.

And, when all was said and done this afternoon, the capital outfit’s solid stretch only continued.

A solitary goal, netted by Heung-min Son a little over ten minutes from time, eventually proved enough to guide Tottenham beyond their fiercest rivals:

Tanganga shines

As outlined above, though, in the aftermath of the action coming to a close in North London, it is not the name of match-winner Son which has since taken centre stage in the online chatter.

Instead, such discussion has surrounded the display of Japhet Tanganga.

22-year-old defender Tanganga is fresh off the back of a difficult campaign last time out, which, amid a combination of fitness woes and competition for places, saw him manage just 6 Premier League appearances.

In turn, reports doing the rounds earlier this week that those in a position of power at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium were ready to farm the English youth international out on loan came as little surprise.

Nevertheless, Tanganga was handed the chance to impress by new boss Nuno this afternoon, in a starting right-back role.

And to say that the stopper went on to take full advantage of the opportunity afforded to him would be putting it lightly.

Tanganga shone throughout versus Arsenal, looking comfortable both in and out of possession, and even chipping in with the assist for Son’s eventual winner.

In turn, the Spurs faithful have since flooded to social media, both to call for the club’s youth product to stay put, and commend ex-manager Jose Mourinho’s call regarding Tanganga’s best position:
