More than 20 Avbob branches forced to shutdown following nationwide strike

More than 20 Avbob branches forced to shutdown following nationwide strikeAvbob Funeral service provider has disclosed that more than 20 branches have shutdown as a result of the nationwide strike called by the undertakers which began on Monday.

The funeral service directors embarked on a three-day strike to get the government’s attention to transform the funeral industry.

Avbob’s spokesperson, Marius du Plessis said they had no choice other than to close their branches because of fear of violence and intimidation.

“We have obligations to fulfill to our customers. When they acquire funeral insurance from us or they call us to perform a service, they rely on us to meet their expectations.”

The company said the close branches will open when it seems safe for the staff.

Avbob’s funeral service has more than 200 branches across the country.

The strike is expected to end on Wednesday with the hope that the government will respond to their demands.

Currently, bodies have not been collected at many private and government mortuaries.

Families of deceased ones have been forced to postpone funerals.
