Meta will release AR glasses in 2027, report says

Meta reportedly briefed employees on its latest augmented and virtual reality development strategy on Tuesday, with the company’s roadmap presentation outlining plans to launch its first pair of fully operational AR glasses. Employees can start testing them in 2024, The Verge reported, with public launch expected to follow in 2027.

In 2021, as part of a partnership with Luxottica, Meta launched augmented reality Ray-Ban smart glasses this integrated technology for phone calls, photos, videos and music. The tech giant will launch two new follow-up generations of these glasses in the fall of 2023 and 2025, according to The Verge.

But a new, more expensive set of AR glasses has been dubbed the “Innovation” line and features more sophisticated technology and the ability to generate “high-quality, real-world avatar holograms,” the outlet said. . The development effort – once revealed in 2021 as Project Nazaré – has been in play for years. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg expects the AR glasses experience to stand out as the holy grail over products from Apple and Google.

Additionally, there are plans to launch a follow-up to Meta Quest 2 later this year. New Quest 3 Virtual Reality Headset will be a slimmer, high-powered model that costs more, according to The Verge. It’s also expected to include more than 40 new mixed reality experiences, apps, and games. This news follows Meta’s announcement that it will no longer provide support for its original VR headsetQuest 1.
