MediaTek announces Dimensity 7200: its first mid-range 4nm chipset

MediaTek has announced the latest addition to its line of chipsets dubbed Dimensity 7200. It is based on the same 2nd generation TSMC 4nm process as the high-end Dimensity 9200 and offers 5G support, gaming optimizations and efficiency. high battery.

The octa-core processor has two ARM Cortex-A715 performance cores clocked at up to 2.8 GHz and six Cortex-A510 efficiency cores. In terms of raw performance, the Dimensity 7200 sits just above Snapdragon 7 Gen1 in Geekbench results, according to MediaTek.

The graphics unit is a quad-core ARM Mali G610 that gets between 100 and 120 frames per second on the Manhattan GFX benchmark according to the company’s internal tests. Displays with refresh rate up to 144Hz are supported as long as they do not exceed Full HD+ resolution.

The Dimensity 7200 is equipped with MediaTek’s Imagiq 765 and a 14-bit HDR-ISP that can support main cameras up to 200MP. It can also capture 4K HDR video and supports dual video capture at 1080P resolution while using all-pixel autofocus. For lowlights, the chipset uses motion-compensated noise reduction.

The chipset comes with MediaTek’s APU (AI Processing Unit) which improves battery consumption and helps in computational photography.

For gaming, the Dimensity 7200 comes with MediaTek’s HyperEngine 5.0 which uses AI-based Variable Rate Shading (VRS) to save power.

The chipset supports 5G below 6 GHz with 2CC carrier aggregation and theoretical download speeds of up to 4.7 Gpbs. It also enables dual 5G SIM with dual VoNR. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 are also part of the package.

The Dimensity 7200 supports RAM speeds of up to 6400 Mbps and UFS 3.1 storage.

Expect to see devices with the Dimensity 7200 coming to China in the first quarter of 2023.
