‘Means So Much’ – Bubba Watson Describes His Affinity for the Travelers Championship
Bubba Watson is the most successful player in the history of the Travelers Championship. He tops the earning chart and has won this tournament thrice. Bubba is currently T2 with a score of -8 going into the weekend. And he will try to be in a strong position before going in the last round on Sunday.
Bubba Watson on why he likes The Travelers Championship
Bubba wasn’t always fond of this course and place when the sponsors were different and the facilities weren’t so good. And that’s what he said in the post-round press conference on Friday.
“You know, again, the first time I ever played here, it was a different sponsor, and I shot I think a 74, 74 without looking it up, and I was like, man, I’m never coming back here.”
“Then Travelers started coming around to everybody and saying, Hey, we’re going to change the range. The old range here where you couldn’t hit the driver, not supposed to hit the driver. So they said they were going to change that and start doing better for the players and caddies, trainers, physios. So there was a lot of things they were going to amp up, and then golf was the last thing they were worried about.”
Since the new sponsors took over, the facilities have been fabulous. And that’s the reason Travelers Championship has always attracted star players. Bubba even mentioned the atmosphere, crowd, and how it affects his game. He then concluded by saying that he feels he can move the ball forward from any lie. And the support of the crowd is always fantastic.
“So and then my first win here with my dad watching. So many things that happened with my family at this place, this community. It just means so much to us, and so when I get here, I just feel energized. I feel like the people are behind me, and they’re pulling for me. I feel like I can move the ball forward from any lie, so that’s always a positive trying to make a par or make a birdie.”
Bubba will tee off with the leader Jason Day in the third round. Jason is just a stroke ahead, with a score of -9 going into the weekend. However, Bubba Watson will look to continue his dream run in the Travelers Championship and try to win the trophy for the fourth time.
