An enthralling affair at Hampden Park this evening saw Scotland get the better of Israel, with a Chelsea-owned starlet having since been singled out for deserved praise.

McTominay at the death

Steve Clarke’s men returned to action a short time ago.

In the nation’s first outing of the latest international break, Scotland welcomed Israel to Glasgow, for a crunch World Cup qualifier.

The Tartan Army headed into proceedings aware that a victory would put them firmly in the driver’s seat to take 2nd spot in the Group F table, sitting just a point clear of their opponents on the day.

And, when all was said and done, secure a potentially crucial three points in their quest to seal a spot at the Qatar 2022 showpiece is precisely what the Scots managed.

A chaotic 90 minutes, during which the hosts twice fell behind during the first-half, ultimately saw the clash decided courtesy of a last-gasp injury-time winner.

After Lyndon Dykes restored parity ten minutes beyond the interval, the evening’s telling moment was forthcoming with 93 minutes on the clock, when a corner to the back post was bundled home by Manchester United’s Scott McTominay.

Scotland, in turn, sit on 14 points, four adrift of table-topping Denmark, but, crucially, a full four clear of 3rd-placed Israel, too.

‘World class’

On the back of the frenetic action coming to a close at Hampden, it should come as little surprise to hear that the name of match-winner McTominay has taken centre stage in the post-match headlines.

As outlined above, however, it is in fact another of Scotland’s stars who has since been singled out as the star of the show by the nation’s supporters.

The man in question? Billy Gilmour.

Chelsea talent Gilmour, currently on loan at Norwich City, stood up in a major way versus Israel, particularly over the course of the 2nd-half, taking the game by the scruff of the neck to will his side forward at each and every opportunity.

And the social media praise, in turn, has since proven aptly widespread, with just some of the highlights from across Twitter showcased below:
