Max Verstappen Explains Why the F1 GOAT Debate ‘Doesn’t Matter’ to Him

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen reveals why he doesn’t bother indulging in the greatest driver of all time debate.

Max Verstappen recently secured his maiden French Grand Prix after he defeated the seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, on the penultimate lap. Although the Dutchman made an early error at Turn 1, he soon found himself back in the lead.

This has been an excellent result for the 23-year-old, who was involved in a frightening crash on the streets of Baku. Meanwhile, the reigning champion finished P2, and Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez finished at P3.

What did Max Verstappen say?

“Who is the greatest driver ever? I don’t know, maybe it was Graham Hill or Jim Clark, Michael Schumacher, or maybe Ayrton Senna.

“At the end of the day it doesn’t matter because everyone is good in their own respects,” said Max Verstappen in an exclusive interview with Crash.

“I just want to win as many races as I can. Of course, I hope to win a championship but if I don’t, at the end of the day, I still love what I’m doing and that’s what is most important.”

Verstappen on the championship lead

After the French Grand Prix, Max Verstappen has extended his lead to 12 points over the 7-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, in the Drivers’ Championship standings.

When asked what he thinks about his championship lead over the reigning champion, he said: “To be honest, I don’t think about it too much.

“People keep telling me that I am [in the lead], and I know that I am, but when I’m at home, I’m not thinking about that.

“I just want to go to the next race and try to win again. I know that’s not always possible, but of course, we try as a team every single weekend to get the best out of it.”

After securing the double podium at Circuit Paul Ricard, Red Bull have extended their lead over Mercedes by 37 points in the Constructors’ Championship.
