Max Verstappen Emulates Ex Red Bull Champion Sebastian Vettel With the Pole Position at Styrian GP

There seems to be a pattern forming between former Red Bull driver, Sebastian Vettel, and current Red Bull driver, Max Verstappen. The interesting bit about the German is that he went on to win the title that season despite desperate efforts from Fernando Alonso.

And it looks like the Dutchman, too, is enjoying a similar trajectory, which could potentially lead him to bountiful success. So, how did Verstappen emulate the 4-time world champion with the qualifying results in Styria?

Max Verstappen repeats Red Bull F1 success

Verstappen recently went on to secure the pole position in qualifying at the Styrian Grand Prix, beating Lewis Hamilton by a marginal difference.

Interestingly though, the Dutchman is the first driver since 2013 to secure two back-to-back pole positions for the Milton Keynes outfit. And the previous driver to have accomplished the feat was Vettel, who is currently racing for Aston Martin.

What’s impressive is that Vettel repeated this success twice in that single season. Each of the pairs came in Australia and Malaysia, and later in the United States and Brazil. Furthermore, he also hit a hat-trick of pole positions in Italy, Singapore, and Korea in 2013.

Such was the season for Vettel who went on to win the title with a massive difference of 155 points against his title rival and then Ferrari driver, Alonso.

Can Verstappen make it a hat-trick of pole positions?

Let’s take a few steps ahead into the succeeding race weekend, which is set to take place on the very same Red Bull Ring in a few days’ time.

The Dutchman was unstoppable around the circuit through Friday and went on to mimic the success on Saturday as well. Such is the pace that Red Bull is managing to deliver at the moment, and Mercedes doesn’t seem to have an answer to that.

Hence, Verstappen holds an incredible chance at making it three pole positions in a row over the next race weekend. Because, as of now, the only driver who could potentially hold the chance of sabotaging Verstappen’s feat is his very own teammate, Sergio Perez, as he runs a similar machine.

However, the Mexican seems far from competing against Verstappen at the moment, with the former still finding his groove, being new recruitment. So, can Verstappen secure what could be his third consecutive F1 pole in Austria next weekend? Well, let’s watch how the future unfolds.
