Matty Cash commits future to Aston Villa

Premier League outfit Aston Villa have, on Monday, confirmed some altogether positive news in the player contract front.

The member of Steven Gerrard’s ranks to have committed to the Claret and Blue for the long-term? Matty Cash.

Full-back Cash is of course in the midst of a fine campaign to date. Across appearances in all 30 of Villa’s Premier League fixtures, the Polish international has shone bright, establishing himself as one of the first names on the team sheet in the west Midlands.

Cash’s exploits in the attacking third have proven particularly impressive, with the 24-year-old having racked up a none-too-shabby three goals and four assists across all competitions in 2021/22.

In turn, news of Villa, this evening, managing to tie their starring stopper down for the foreseeable future will no doubt be met with jubilation on the part of the club’s fanbase.

As per an announcement across the Villans’ social media platforms, Cash ‘has signed a contract extension with the club’:

The former Nottingham Forest star himself, meanwhile, has since provided further insight into the situation, confirming that his new terms are set to run through the summer of 2027:

Wolves triumph

News of Cash’s renewal of course comes fresh on the back of another disappointing weekend for Steven Gerrard’s Villa.

This comes after the Claret and Blue made the trip to Molineux in search of a much-needed bounce-back performance, after seeing a three-game win streak brought to a firm end courtesy of back-to-back defeats at the hands of West Ham and Arsenal prior to the international break.

When all was said and done in the Midlands derby, though, Villa were ultimately forced to face up to a third Premier League defeat on the bounce.

Though Ollie Watkins did manage to pull one back late on, Ashley Young adding to Jonny’s early opener courtesy of an own goal shortly after the half-hour mark ensured that all three points, in the end, went the way of Wolves.
