Crystal Palace sign Guehi
Crystal Palace had a fairly active summer transfer window that saw them trying to rejuvenate an ageing squad.
And, for the most part, the Eagles did a solid job of this, bringing in a number of young talents under the age of 25.
One of these was Marc Guehi, who Palace are believed to have paid Chelsea £18m for.
Guehi speaks on decision to leave Chelsea
Having previously impressed on loan with Swansea in the Championship, Guehi has now slotted straight into Palace’s first-team picture.
The central defender has played every minute of football for Viera’s side so far this term.
And now, in a recent interview, the 21-year-old has opened up on his decision to leave Chelsea, stating that it was not easy, but the right decision was to join Palace as he wanted to play regular Premier League football:
“It wasn’t an easy decision for me to leave Chelsea. I was at the club for so long – since I was seven years old. I am extremely grateful for everyone who has helped me get so far and it’s because of them that I’m here.
“I felt like it was the right decision for me to move to Palace. I wanted to play regular football at a high level in the Premier League and test myself to see how far I can go. I think I will really improve myself.
“So looking at it that way, I think it was the right decision. My mentality is to get the most out of myself.”
The Chelsea academy product also spoke about what he has learned from former Chelsea captain, John Terry:
“I learned an immense lot with the way he conducted himself, the way he played and the professionalism.
“He is seen as such a high standard through his professionalism and commitment to the game.”
