Manchester United’s move for Erik Ten Hag ‘moving fast’ ahead of summer switch

Manchester United’s move for Erik Ten Hag ‘moving fast’ ahead of summer switch

Manchester United are fast closing in on completing a deal to make Erik Ten Hag their new manager come the summer.

While a deal is not agreed as of Wednesday evening, all signs point to one being agreed in the imminent future as the Old Trafford hierarchy look to kickstart their plans for summer business early.

Ajax boss Ten Hag was among several candidates interviewed by the club, and while some reservations have been raised by those in charge of the club, current interim boss and soon to be clubn advisor Rangnick is thought to have endorsed the move, while Mauricio Pochettino is proving tricky to prise away from PSG.

As per the Manchester Evening News, ‘sources said PSG played hardball and United were unprepared to pay a compensation package of around £15million.’

And the same report claims that ‘Ajax expect Erik ten Hag to become Manchester United’s next manager’, as the club look to recover from a terrible season so far, that sees them sit in a lowly 7th place in the Premier League, level on points with West Ham in 6th, though they have played a game fewer than David Moyes’ side.

Rangnick’s role still undefined

The role of current interim boss Ralf Rangnick is still unclear come the end of the season. In theory, he is supposed to be taking a consultancy role at Old Trafford, but should Ten Hag come in with his own ideas, the German may find his influence limited with the Red Devils and their future policy.

On the other hand, should the hierarchy at Manchester United allow Rangnick and Ten Hag to work together unmolested, they could finally begin the long-overdue Red Devil rebuild.
