Manchester United “working” on Zinedine Zidane managerial switch

Manchester United “working” on Zinedine Zidane managerial switch

Manchester United struggling under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United currently find themselves in sixth place, nine points off early pacesetters Chelsea, and in a horrible run of form.

The Red Devils have taken just four points from a possible 18 across their last six Premier League games, and have suffered back-to-back home humiliations, 5-0 to Liverpool and 2-0 to Manchester City, which has piled the pressure on current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

In Europe, the outlook is only rosier thanks to moments of Cristiano Ronaldo brilliance. A last-minute strike against Villareal stole three points, while he also found a winner against Atalanta, before scoring a late equaliser in the return game in Bergamo. It leaves United top of their group, but with their current form, you would not back them to go much further.

They also suffered a shock loss at the hands of West Ham in the Carabao Cup, depriving them of a very real possibility of silverware this season, and effectively leaving them with the Champions League and FA Cup as their only avenues of success.

Zidane being worked on as Solskjaer’s replacement

Understandably, Solskjaer is on shaky ground, not least because he seemingly has no answers as to how to get his side out of the slump they find themselves in.

As such, managers are being linked with the vacant job, most strongly Brendan Rodgers, who is rumoured to be househunting in Manchester already.

Now, as per a report in the Times, it is Zinedine Zidane that the United hierarchy are sounding out over a potential move. According to the report:

“Manchester United are working to persuade Zinédine Zidane to succeed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the Premier League club’s manager”

Zidane would bring plenty of Champions League experience, as well as the knowledge of how to get the best out of Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane following their time together at Real Madrid.

However, would he risk his reputation for such a job, which has so often proved a poisoned chalice?
