Manchester United ready summer swoop for Aston Villa star

Manchester United pegged back by Aston Villa

Former Liverpool man Philippe Coutinho came back to haunt Manchester United as he helped Aston Villa come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2.

The Brazilian entered the fray at 2-0 down, coming on for his Villa debut in the process. And, his impact was immediate, as he registered a goal and an assist to bring the Villians back into the contest.

The result, coupled with defeat to Wolves the game before, leaves Manchester United looking a longshot for the top 4, and Champions League spots, at present.

Currently 7th, and below a Tottenham side with two games in hand on the Red Devils, they will need an immediate upturn in form even as their fixtures become trickier in the coming weeks.

In their draw to Villa, however, one man caught the eye despite not playing.

United target McGinn

Now, according to the Telegraph, the Red Devils have taken particular interest in Scotsman John McGinn.

As per James Ducker:

Midfield is viewed as a priority area to address this summer and McGinn has emerged as one of the options under consideration.

The Scotland international is admired by his compatriot Darren Fletcher, who took up the role of technical director at Old Trafford in March last year, and any deal with Villa would hinge on McGinn’s contract situation if United press ahead.

It is clear to see how McGinn would help United. His all-action role in central midfield would give them a much needed different dimension from the current pairing Scott McTominay and Fred, while Nemanja Matic is well past his prime and is not getting any younger.

The price, however, could be a sticking point. It is unclear what Aston Villa would demand for a man who has become a key cog in their side, as they look to push on for European football.

But would it be worth the cost?
