Manchester United handed boost as Real Madrid pull out of Erling Haaland move

Real Madrid have pulled out of a move for Erling Haaland in the summer, according to the Daily Star, handing Manchester United and other chasing clubs a major boost.

The Borussia Dortmund talent is one of the hottest prospects in world football and is almost certain to leave Germany this summer, with a release clause in his contract due to come into effect at the end of this season.

The major mystery, however, remains his destination.

Already warned by Gerard Pique not to follow Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid, the decision appears to have been made for the Norweigian, with the Spanish having ‘decided they can no longer afford the £300million required to land Haaland following their capture of France hitman Kylian Mbappe’.

This leaves Manchester United, Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain heading up the queue for Haaland’s signature in the summer, with Chelsea having already added Romelu Lukaku to their side just months ago and Juventus buying Dusan Vlahovic in January.

Haaland Manchester Bound?

While PSG guarantees trophies, it may be that Haaland ends up moving to Manchester come the summer.

Both sides are in desperate need of a striker, something that Manchester City’s signing of Julian Alvarez does not change despite his prodigious talent, while Manchester United look set to lose Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial in the summer, as well as Mason Greenwood having been suspended indefinitely.

That leaves a 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo ploughing a lone furrow come the start of next season, and should United be able to convince super-agent Mino Raiola that their offer is a good one, they should be pulling all the stops out to land Haaland ahead of their City rivals.
