Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel has had his say on Ralf Rangnick ahead of a potential appointment at Manchester United.

Sunday’s marquee Premier League fixture will see Chelsea and Manchester United go head-to-head at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues head into the weekend’s action sitting pretty atop the Premier League table on 29 points.

Manchester City, though, only trail by three points, meaning Chelsea cannot afford to lose on Sunday.

On paper, this seems very unlikely. Manchester United sit 8th in the PL at present, with a simply awful defensive record. Chelsea, on the other hand, are both the top scorers in the league and have the best defence in the division.

And though Michael Carrick is currently in charge and would guide United to a 2-0 win over Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday, Man United looked pretty poor in the first-half of that clash.

In turn, one would assume that a team of Chelsea’s quality will go on to punish United in a much more convincing manner than Unai Emery’s side.

Tuchel heaps praise on Rangnick

Ahead of Sunday, Thomas Tuchel has been asked about Ralf Rangnick. Though not official, it is widely expected that the German will take charge of Man United on an interim basis for the remainder of the season.

Tuchel would play under Rangnick at Ulm and was then handed his first coaching role by him.

Now, ahead of a potential Man United appointment, Tuchel has labelled Rangnick an elite manager:

“He helped me a lot because he was my coach. And then he was one of the main figures to convince me to try coaching. 

“So a huge influence on all of us at this time, because he showed us that it’s not necessary to follow people to the toilet in football games, because there was the belief in these days that the defenders follow their strikers wherever they go. He showed us that it’s possible to defend everybody and so on.

“He was one of the very first to implement a back four in Germany and introduce the style of not man-marking and still being aggressive and was one of the pioneers to introduce a 442 and high pressing and still he is one of the leaders of this development in German football so tactically for sure he is an elite coach.”
