Manchester United could appoint permanent manager before end of season

An update on Manchester United’s hunt for a permanent manager has been provided.

Ralf Rangnick takes charge

Ralf Rangnick would be named as Manchester United’s interim boss in December of 2021.

The German was expected to take charge of the club for the remainder of 2021/22 before transitioning into a two-year consultancy role.

The Red Devils began life under Rangnick with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, a game Man United dominated and showed signs of already learning an effective pressing game under the German in.

This was followed by a weakened United side drawing 1-1 with Young Boys, a result which was enough to see the Manchester outfit top their Champions League group.

Manchester United have since faced Norwich, Newcastle, Burnley Wolves and Aston Villa in the Premier League.

And, despite three of those sides being the current bottom three, Manchester United never really looked convincing in any of those outings, scrapping a 1-0 win over Norwich and being forced to settle for a draw with Newcastle.

Elsewhere, they would lose to Wolves and draw with Aston Villa after they blew a two-goal lead.

There has also been talk of unrest within Manchester United’s squad, whilst Gary Neville went as far as to label United players as ‘whingebags’ after a poor showing vs Newcastle.

Manchester United to appoint new boss before end of season?

So, it is probably fair to say that Rangnick has not had the easiest of starts to life as Manchester United manager.

As a result, it is not too surprising to see it reported that Manchester United could appoint a permanent boss before the end of this season.

The Manchester Evening News report that there have been developments in United’s process to settle on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s full-time successor and the club could secure an agreement well in advance of July.

Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag remain the frontrunners to take over.

Somewhat surprisingly, it is added that Ralf Rangnick is involved in the process, despite currently being the man in the job.
