The Frenchman was in quarantine in Manchester for the previous two weeks, but was finally made official ahead of their opening day kick-off against Leeds United.
Before kick-off, with the atmosphere already raucous due to the rivalry between the two clubs, the announcement kicked the crowd into a fever pitch.

Varane joins the club on a four year deal, in a deal with Real Madrid worth 34 million pounds and further add-ons, as per The Athletic‘s correspondent David Ornstein. He becomes Manchester United’s second signing, following the addition of Jadon Sancho, who was named on the bench for the opening fixture.
Varane new number unveiled
In the cacophony of noise and excitement that greeted Varane’s unveiling, many fans will have missed the number on the back of the shirt that he was holding up.
However, judging by the unveiling, the serial winner will don the number 19 shirt for the Red Devils, which is a significant change from the number 4 that he possessed at Madrid.

Varane does, however, have the chance to make the shirt his own in the memory of Manchester United fans, with previous owners including the likes of Marcus Rashford (breifly), Gerard Pique and most recently Amad Diallo.
With no legacy to it as of yet, could Varane be the man to make the number 19 historic? Judging by his pedigree and the excitement surrounding his unveiling, he will certainly be hoping so.
