Manchester United confirm Axel Tuanzebe exit

Premier League giants Manchester United have, on Sunday, confirmed the loan departure of defender Axel Tuanzebe.

Sancho in/Varane to follow

Recent weeks have of course seen ongoings at Old Trafford take centre stage in the media.

This comes as the Red Devils go about piecing together a squad capable of finally challenging the likes of Liverpool and neighbours Man City for the Premier League title.

To this point, United have secured just one signing, albeit a significant one, in the form of Borussia Dortmund sensation Jadon Sancho:

The board at the Theatre of Dreams, though, look far from done.

Set to follow Sancho through the doors at Carrington any day now is Raphael Varane, after Real Madrid confirmed last week that an agreement had been struck to send the club’s long-time defensive stalwart to Manchester:

Villa return

To open space for such a world-class presence at the back, though, word was always expected to follow regarding incoming departures from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s defensive ranks.

And one such player to have been hotly tipped to move on over the last couple of weeks has been Axel Tuanzebe.

Tuanzebe, who managed just four Premier League starts last season, would likely have been relegated to fifth choice in the Reds’ central defensive pecking order over the campaign ahead, behind all of the aforementioned Varane, Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof.

With the 23-year-old still held in high regard at the club, a loan departure has therefore long looked the best solution for all parties.

And, as outlined above, on Sunday, such a move has indeed been forthcoming.

Taking to the clubs’ respective social media platforms, Manchester United and Aston Villa confirmed that Tuanzebe has linked up with the latter on loan for the 2021/22 season:

The move marks a return to Villa Park for Tuanzebe, who previously enjoyed a pair of loan spells with the Claret and Blue between 2018 and 2019.
