Manchester United central midfielder hunt latest

Manchester United central midfielder hunt latest

A fresh update on Manchester United’s hunt for a midfielder has been provided on Monday.

The Manchester Evening news, as covered by 101 last week, reported that the Red Devils accept that midfield is the biggest problem in their squad, and that position has been identified as a priority.

That is not at all surprising, though, with United having been lacking a proper defensive midfielder for some time now.

Scott McTominay and Fred continue to show flashes of quality, but it is clear the club need a natural no.6.

However, it does not look as though United will be bringing in a new central midfielder before the deadline.

The Manchester Evening News claim that Man United accept their midfield is the ‘biggest problem’ and at least one significant addition to the area is inevitable in the summer.

However, the Red Devils’ ideal targets are not attainable this month.

So, though not 100 per cent confirmed, it seems like United fans will be waiting until at least the summer window to see their central midfield spot improved.

Who could leave Manchester United on deadline day?

Elsewhere, the same report from the MEN has shed some light as to who could leave Old Trafford on Monday.

They report that Donny van de Beek is on the verge of joining Everton, and Bordeaux have enquired about Phil Jones.

Elsewhere, Newcastle have shortlisted Dean Henderson and Jesse Lingard as possible loan options but can only loan one player from another Premier League club, so are working on a move for Henderson.

Any departure for United on Monday would follow Anthony Martial and Amad Diallo out the door, the latter of which scored on his debut for new club Rangers over the weekend. Watch that here.
