Dias pens new deal

Ruben Dias has signed a new deal with Manchester City, just 12 months after he joined the club. The Portuguese defender was incredibly impressive throughout the 2020-21 campaign, striking up a seemingly invincible pairing with English defender John Stones, and picking up the player of the season award in the process.

His fantastic performances have therefore seen him rewarded with a new long-term deal, keeping him at the club until 2027, when he will still be just 30 years old.

City focus on contracts

It has been a seemingly quiet summer for Manchester City on the transfers front, with just Jack Grealish arriving to date. Of course, much has been made of their failed pursuit of Tottenham striker Harry Kane, but they have quietly ensured their defence is set for the foreseeable future.

The new contract for Dias follows quickly in the wake of new deals for goalkeeper Ederson and fellow centre-back John Stones, until 2025 and 2026 respectively.

These deals mean that, realistically, Manchester City will not have to address their first choice defensive partnership or goalkeeper position until 2025 at the earliest, provided that they can keep their high level of performance up.
