Man United’s supporters in bizarre Arsenal demand after Smith Rowe opener

 

The Manchester United faithful have flooded to social media on Thursday evening, to make their feelings crystal clear regarding the goal netted by Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe.

The Red Devils, at present, are of course locked in Premier League action.

After following up a key Champions League downing of Villarreal last week with an equally impressive point at table-topping Chelsea at the weekend, United, again overseen by caretaker boss Michael Carrick, welcomed Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to Old Trafford.

And, as things stand at Old Trafford, the Gunners look poised to bring a firm end to their hosts’ timely upturn in form.

This comes with Arteta and co. currently leading by a goal to nil, owing to an altogether bizarre opener inside the opening quarter of an hour.

After a whipped corner from the right made its way into the United area, David de Gea went to ground off the ball, culminating in the aforementioned Emile Smith Rowe lashing home in sumptuous fashion from the edge of the area.

On the back of a lengthy stoppage in play, which initially looked as though it was set to see the goal chalked off, it was subsequently confirmed that, in fact, ESR’s strike would stand.

This comes with referee Martin Atkinson having blown his whistle after the ball had hit the net, and de Gea’s issue having actually come at the hands of teammate Fred:

Despite the goal, by the rules of the game, having therefore been completely legitimate, however, many of a Manchester United persuasion were nevertheless left fuming with the situation.

Not only that, but, incredibly, some even went as far as to make clear their feelings that Arsenal, in a show of ‘sportsmanship’, should in fact have allowed the hosts to walk the ball into the net at the other end, directly from kick-off.
