Man United’s meeting with Brentford thrown into doubt following Covid outbreak at Old Trafford

Word stemming from the English media on Sunday evening has pointed towards the potential suspension of Manchester United’s upcoming meeting with Brentford, owing to an outbreak of Covid-19.

PL ravaged

The subject of Covid-19, unfortunately, has returned to the fore in a major way in the top-flight of English football of late.

This comes with a number of clubs having been hit by outbreaks within their playing and backroom staff alike.

Tottenham’s woes have of course been the most high-profile, with no fewer than eight positive cases amongst Antonio Conte’s ranks having culminated in the club’s last two fixtures being postponed.

Elsewhere, Brentford stars Ivan Toney and Ethan Pinnock have too been forced into spells of self isolation, whilst newly-appointed Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe sat out his first scheduled fixture at the helm on Tyneside, owing to a positive Covid test of his own.

Red Devils hit

And, as alluded to above, if the latest word doing the rounds in the media on Sunday evening is anything to go by, then the Premier League’s coronavirus concern appears primed to rear its ugly head once more.

As per a report from Neil Custis of The Sun, a fresh Covid outbreak has been confirmed at Manchester United:

‘United had postive lateral flow tests returned on a number of players and staff and the Premier League have been informed. ‘

Though the extent of the outbreak remains unclear at present, it is understood that the Red Devils’ meeting with Brentford this coming Tuesday has been thrown into immediate doubt.
