Man United confirm McTominay & Telles boosts ahead of Newcastle

Manchester United have, on Monday evening, confirmed a double boost on the personnel front, ahead of the club’s meeting with Newcastle.

Reds on song

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are of course fresh off the back of a solid opening to the new campaign.

Amid a productive summer, which saw all of Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and, remarkably, Cristiano Ronaldo make their way to Old Trafford, the Red Devils racked up seven points from an available nine in the Premier League.

First up was a thoroughly impressive drubbing of Leeds United, before a sole hiccup in the form of a 1-1 stalemate with Southampton.

Then, last time out, United returned to winning ways, staving off the efforts of a spirited Wolves outfit to eventually emerge on the right side of a 1-0 scoreline.

McTominay on the recovery trail

Solskjaer’s men, in turn, will no doubt be confident in their chances of keeping alive the club’s positive spell of early-season form this weekend.

The Reds are set to welcome Steve Bruce’s Newcastle to Manchester, for a Premier League showdown on Saturday afternoon.

The main focus ahead of the clash, understandably, has been the availability of Cristiano Ronaldo, with the Portuguese, on the back of his return to Old Trafford last weekend, potentially in line for a 2nd United debut versus the Magpies.

On Monday, though, the names of two others have in fact taken centre stage in the chatter at Carrington.

The players in question? Alex Telles and Scott McTominay.

Taking to social media this evening, United unveiled photos of both players back in first-team training ahead of this weekend’s post-international break return to action:

A subsequent announcement on the club’s official website, meanwhile, provided a further insight into the situation:

Alex Telles has been out since picking up an ankle injury in pre-season, after appearing in the friendly victory over Derby County in July.

However, the Brazil international has been making good progress in his rehabilitation and was spotted by our photographers at Carrington looking in a very positive frame of mind.

Regarding McTominay, it is added that:

Another player featuring in our exclusive shots is Scott McTominay, even though he only underwent a groin operation recently.

The midfielder missed the win at Wolves as a result of the surgery but he pledged to be back sooner than fans would think and it was another major plus to see him out on the grass as the squad prepares for Saturday’s visit of Newcastle United.
