Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer outlines ambitions for 2021/22 season

Man United’s 2020/21

Manchester United’s 2020/21 would ultimately end in rather disappointing fashion.

After failing to make it out of their Champions League group, the Red Devils went all the way to the Europa League final before ultimately losing out to Villareal.

United also failed to win the FA Cup and League Cup, leaving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer without any silverware from two and a half seasons at the club.

Man United did also finish 2nd in the Premier League last campaign, but it was not exactly a title challenge as they finished 12 points behind Manchester City.

Solskjaer outlines goals for upcoming season

However, Man United have now strengthened their squad in some key positions this summer.

For a while now Man United have lacked a proper right-winger, but that issue has been solved by the arrival of Jadon Sancho.

The Manchester outfit also desperately needed to upgrade on Victor Lindelof, which they have now done by signing Raphael Varane.

So, there is now more of an expectation that United should be winning something in 2021/22.

And Solskjaer himself has outlined his ambitions for the upcoming campaign, with the Norwegian aiming to still be challenging in both the league and cups when it gets to April and May:

“We want to start winning trophies and I feel now that the foundation has been laid on the training ground, in the transfer market and with the work that the coaches and the staff have been doing with the players.

“I want us to get to April and May challenging in the league and cups. We’ve gone from third to second and a lot closer in points, we’ve gone from three semis to a final [losing in the Europa League on penalties to Villarreal in May] so it’s taking the next step now, that’s the challenge.”
