Bruno Fernandes was on target for Portugal this evening, with the midfielder’s efforts having since piqued the attentions of a host of sources online.
Silva amongst the goals
Fernando Santos’ men returned to action a short time ago.
A Selecao made the trip to Debrecen in Hungary, for a friendly meeting with 2022 World Cup hosts Qatar.
The Portuguese headed into proceedings in search of an improved display, after only avoiding a shock defeat at the hands of the Republic of Ireland earlier this week thanks to a late brace on the part of talisman Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ahead of a meeting with Azerbaijan early next week, though, Santos and co. managed to oversee a more comfortable victory this time around.
Strikes from Andre Silva and Otavio ensured that, with minutes remaining in proceedings at the Nagyerdei Stadion, Portugal boasted a 2-1 advantage.

Then, with 88 minutes on the clock, the aforementioned Bruno Fernandes made sure of the result.
Stepping up to the penalty spot, the gifted midfielder slotted home in confident fashion, rounding out the scoring in a 3-1 Selecao win.

Fernandes’ latest finish from 12 yards, though, has since given rise to an interesting point across social media, surrounding the Manchester United star, and new club teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.
The last 18 months have of course seen the former take responsibility of penalty duties at Old Trafford, and to altogether fine effect.
On the back of Ronaldo’s Red Devils return being made official earlier last weekend, though, it has already been widely suggested that the veteran attacker will likely take over spot-kicks in Manchester over the coming seasons.
As a result, it has come as little surprise to see a number of outlets highlight the fact that the international break has actually seen CR7 and Ronaldo endure contrasting fortunes from 12 yards.
Whilst the latter made no mistake versus Qatar this evening, Ronaldo fluffed his lines just days ago, seeing his own penalty effort kept out by Irish youngster Gavin Bazunu.
