Man City confirm investigation after Aston Villa’s Robin Olsen assaulted during title celebrations

Manchester City have been forced to release an official statement on Sunday evening, owing to unsavoury scenes during the club’s title celebrations.

The Sky Blues, of course, officially retained their Premier League crown a short time ago.

After seeing the title come so close to slipping through their hands owing to Aston Villa goals on the part of Matty Cash and Philippe Coutinho, Pep Guardiola’s troops came roaring back to eventually emerge on the right side of a 3-2 triumph.

Ilkay Gundogan proved the star of the show, bagging a brace either side of Rodri’s strike, to ensure that City pipped Liverpool to supremacy in the English top-flight by a solitary point.

Owing to the chaotic nature of their eventual triumph, it should therefore come as little surprise to hear that the celebrations on the Etihad pitch post-match proved equally as wild.

As alluded to above, though, at one point, one particular member of the hosts’ fanbase took things a step too far.

As confirmed in an official statement across Man City’s social media platforms on Sunday evening, Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen was the victim of ‘assault’ whilst making his way off the pitch in Manchester.

An investigation into the matter, in turn, has since been opened, ahead of the individual responsible being ‘issued with an indefinite stadium ban’:

‘Manchester City would like to sincerely apologise to Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen, who was assaulted after the final whistle at today’s match when fans entered the pitch.

The Club has launched an immediate investigation and once identified, the individual responsible will be issued with an indefinite stadium ban.’
