Major update surfaces on Sergi Roberto’s Barcelona future
Major update surfaces on Sergi Roberto’s Barcelona future
An altogether noteworthy update on the contract situation of versatile Barcelona star Sergi Roberto has been forthcoming on Monday evening.
Alaba & Vazquez on target
Ronald Koeman’s men were of course back in action a little over 24 hours ago.
On the back of a mini resurgence of sorts since the international break, the Blaugrana welcomed fierce rivals Real Madrid to the Camp Nou, aiming to make it three wins from three across all competitions.
When all was said and done on Sunday afternoon, however, Barca were brought plummeting firmly back down to earth.
An altogether underwhelming display ultimately culminated in the hosts being put to the sword by two goals to one, to slip five points adrift of Carlo Ancelotti’s table-topping Blancos.
Strikes from David Alaba and Lucas Vazquez made the difference on the day, with Sergio Aguero’s injury-time effort representing little more than a consolation upon the final whistle sounding.
What a way for David Alaba to announce himself in #ElClasico! 😱😱

Roberto latest
In turn, it should come as little surprise to hear of a heavy backlash in the Catalan capital over the last 24 hours.
Boss Ronald Koeman, for one, was on the receiving end of both a verbal and physical mobbing in his attempts to depart yesterday’s clash in his car:

As such, it is safe to say that the Blaugrana faithful, still recovering from the departure of Lionel Messi, and now attempting to navigate their way through a wretched opening to the season, could do with some good news.
And, if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media is anything to go by, then precisely that could well be on the horizon.
It is of course common knowledge that Sergi Roberto, on the books at the Camp Nou since all the way back in 2006, has never represented the most popular figure amongst Barcelona’s fanbase.
Nevertheless, the versatile defender/midfielder continues to play a considerable role in the club’s first-team setup. Roberto was even introduced off the bench during the 2nd-half on Sunday.
However, as per a report Spanish outlet Diario UF, the 29-year-old, somewhat out of the blue, now looks primed for an imminent Blaugrana departure.
It is claimed that contract negotiations between Roberto and the Camp Nou hierarchy have reached an impasse, owing to the length of the terms on offer.
In turn, with the La Masia youth product’s deal set to expire in 2022, the decision has been made for Roberto to move on.
