Luis Diaz’s father reveals why Tottenham missed out on the Colombian
He who hesitates is lost.
In the case of Tottenham’s chase of Luis Diaz, this certainly seemed to be the case late in January as Liverpool beat them to the signing of the Porto man in the dying stages of the transfer window.
Speaking on Blu Radio, Diaz’s father outlined just what happened to see Liverpool pip Antonio Conte’s side to the punch.
‘Tottenham was one [club interested]. Roma were also left behind in the process’, he explained.
‘They hesitated a lot and let themselves be caught by Liverpool.
Liverpool were faster than them, they needed him and they took him away’, Diaz added.
The Colombian’s father was also quick to reveal that Liverpool were his dream side out of the situation, due to their prestige at the top level already.
‘There were many suitors who wanted Luis’ services, but he had the dream of reaching Liverpool because Liverpool are an elite team’. he told local radio.
‘After the first game, he told me that they are a team that works hard, complete, in which he will feel comfortable and will have the chance to play with high-performance players.’
Tottenham turn attentions elsewhere
It was always confusing as to where Luis Diaz was going to fit in at Tottenham, for all the excitement that the signing may have brought to the fanbase.
Instead, Tottenham made late moves for Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus, both players joining on deadline day and already having gone on to make their first appearances for the club.
They may not be a signing to match the glamour of Luis Diaz, but in the long run they may have found better tactical additions to their side than the Colombian.
