Lucky Hank trailer: Bob Odenkirk is going through a midlife crisis

Lucky Hank, a new series starring Bob Odenkirk, just received a trailer. After wrapping up his time as savvy lawyer Saul Goodman on Better Call Saul, the Emmy-nominated star returns for another AMC project. This time, he plays the eponymous, bitter English professor at a severely underfunded university, who identifies as a born anarchist. Based on the 1997 novel “Straight Man” by Richard Russo, the eight-episode series is set to premiere March 19 on AMC+. In India, the AMC+ service is available as an add-on channel on Amazon Prime Video. Gadgets360 contacted the latter to confirm the release date in India.

The trailer for Lucky Hank opens with an angry William Henry ‘Hank’ Devereaux, Jr. (Odenkirk) humiliating a student for showing a lack of academic promise. “The fact that you are here means that you are very unpromising,” he said. “You are here at Railton College, the capital of mediocrity! It’s not long before the audio of his derogatory comments is made public, made worse by the fact that he is the chairman of the college’s English department. “They twisted my words – No, that’s…pretty much word for word,” he read from a transcript. His comments set off a chain reaction of events that challenge his authority, mandatory meetings with parents and personal hate-filled text messages.

“Being an adult is 80% misery,” he tells his wife Lily (Mireille Enos), who herself is vice-principal at the local high school in town. As Hank’s midlife crisis nears boiling point, Lily decides she wants to ditch the mundane lifestyle and pursue her professional career elsewhere. But Hank remains adamant about staying, for reasons only his therapist understands. “I’m afraid to say something really consistent with my personality. But incompatible with a modern college campus,” says Hank in the Lucky Hank trailer, presumably referencing an important faculty meeting regarding his role/dismissal from the college.

The series chronicles the most absurd moments in Hank’s life – switching between family issues, exchanging sarcastic comments with students, getting slammed by his peers and even boxing a goose in the middle of the day. THE Lucky Hank The trailer also brings up the prospect that he’s just a misunderstood citizen, with the neighbors assuming “it’s all a joke to him.” It’s essentially a dramatic showcase of one man’s downward spiral, all taking place over the course of a single week.

The series originally shared the same title as the book, “Straight Man”, but was later revised last month to Lucky Hank. Rounding out the cast are Cedric Yarbrough, Sara Amini, Diedrich Bader, Suzanne Cryer and Olivia Scott Welch. David Lynch’s frequent collaborator, Kyle MacLachlan will also appear as a guest star.

Lucky Hank is slated for release March 19 on AMC+. Currently, there is no confirmation whether the episodes will start streaming on the same day on Amazon Prime Video, India.
