Speaking in a recent interview, Lucas Moura has named the best midfielder he has seen.

And that man is former Tottenham and Belgium star, Mousa Dembele. When discussing the now 34-year-old recently, Lucas stated:

“On the pitch I miss Mousa Dembele, a really incredible player. He was the best midfielder I have seen.

“I miss a lot of players, football gave me a lot of friends and a lot of good players that I play with.”

Dembele’s Tottenham stint

After impressing with Fulham, Dembele was snapped up by Spurs in August of 2012 for a reported fee of around £17m.

Dembele would go on to feature in 249 games for Spus, scoring 10 and assisting 12 in the process.

It was not his goal contributions, though, that made him such a key part of Tottenham’s side, but instead his defensive awareness, pace, power and ability to carry the ball up the pitch to connect midfield and attack.

However, for whatever reason, Tottenham would allow Dembele to depart the club in January of 2019 for his current side, GZ City.

Since Dembele left, it is fair to say that the Lilywhites have had a hard time replacing the Belgian.

When Tanguy Ndombele was signed from Lyon it looked as though he would be the air to Dembele’s throne.

However, so far, the Frenchman has failed to impress under both Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo.

Will Ndombele finally be able to reach his full potential under new boss, Antonio Conte?
