Louis Saha outlines what current Manchester United squad is lacking

Louis Saha outlines what current Manchester United squad is lacking

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has outlined what the current senior squad is lacking.

Man United struggling

Manchester United suffered one of their worst-ever Premier League defeats last weekend.

The Red Devils would play host to bitter rivals, Liverpool, at Old Trafford, and suffered a simply embarrassing 5-0 loss to Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Before the game was even over, Manchester United’s fans began calling for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to be sacked, with many opting to use the hashtag, ‘OleOut’.

Resentment towards Solskjaer has been building for some time now, with United already out of the League Cup, failing to impress in the Champions League and, after losing to Liverpool, falling eight points behind table-topping Chelsea in the Premier League.

What Manchester United are lacking

Now, before Man United face off with Tottenham on Saturday evening, Louis Saha has been speaking about the Red Devils.

Saha spent four years at Man United between 2004 and 2008, scoring 28 times in 86 ties.

The group of players Saha was playing alongside were, of course, some of the best in United’s storied history.

And now, the Frenchman is of the opinion that Man United’s current group of players are lacking leaders:

“We had a squad full of leaders on the pitch, like Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vididic, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Roy Keane. They weren’t afraid to speak their mind and to tell you if things weren’t going well.

“That direct style made you grow faster. It can be uncomfortable, but that can be good as it takes you out of your comfort zone and that’s when you grow.

“I don’t see that now [in the present group]. Maybe the era has changed. Maybe players talk to each other openly inside the team, but from the outside it looks too diplomatic.”
