The woman is one of the four critically injured victims of Thursday night’s pandemonium at Asake’s South London concert.

The victim, 33-year-old Rebecca Ikumelo, of Newham, was left in critical condition following the stampede at the ravemaking Afrobeat sensation’s show. She succumbed to her injuries in the early hours of Saturday morning, December 17.

About 3,000 people without tickets had broken into the venue of the concert, causing congestion and crushing amongst the crowds.

The Metropolitan Police were then called to the scene to cancel the show amid security concerns. Unfortunately, at least eight concertgoers had suffered varying degrees of injury, with four of them being left in critical conditions.

Ms Ikumelo, who was one of the victims left in critical conditions, was unable to survive the fatal incident. Two other women, aged 21 and 23, remain in critical condition.

Meanwhile, Asake has since released a statement, saying his heart is with the family of Ms Ikumelo, as he had reached out to them personally. Asake wrote:

“I am devastated by the news that Rebecca Ikumelo who was in a critical condition since Thursday has sadly passed away.

My sincerest condolences to her loved ones at this time. Let us please keep her family in our prayers. I have spoken to them and will continue to do so.

I am overwhelmed with grief and could never have imagined anything like this happening.

My team and I are still awaiting the full debrief back from the Venue management and the Police to determine what exactly led to all the disruption caused and ultimately to Rebecca’s passing

If you have any relevant information relating to this please do reach out to the Metropolitan Police.”
