Liverpool’s attacking depth takes further hit as Takumi Minamino withdraws from international

Firmino injured

Liverpool’s final clash before the international break would see them play host to Chelsea, a club expected to be one of their direct title rivals this season.

Jurgen Klopp and co. would be forced to settle for a 1-1 draw on the day, despite Chelsea going down to 10 men right before half-time.

As well as failing to pick up a win over Chelsea, Liverpool were also dealt a blow on the personnel front last weekend.

Roberto Firmino would start the tie for Liverpool and had been impressive in his pressing during the opening exchanges.

However, the Brazilian was forced off with just 43 minutes played at Anfield.

It has since been confirmed that the forward has a hamstring injury and whilst it is not too serious, he is expected to be out for at least a couple of weeks:

While the initial diagnosis is the injury is not serious, the striker must undergo more tests and is expected to be sidelined for at least a couple of weeks.

Minamino withdraws from international duty

Now, it looks as though Liverpool have been handed another blow to their forward line this week.

Takumi Minamino would link up with Japan for the current international break and was left on their bench during their 1-0 loss to Oman on Thursday.

Japan are now set to face off with China on Tuesday in their 2nd 2022 World Cup qualifier.

And the forward will also play no part in that game, with the Liverpool Echo reporting on Saturday that:

The Japan FA announced on Saturday that Minamino was leaving the national team “due to an injury” and wouldn’t feature in Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against China.
