Harvey Elliott would be handed his 3rd successive league start for the Reds after an impressive start to the season.

Unfortunately for the midfielder, he would pick up a nasty-looking injury at the hands of Leeds’ Pascal Struijk.

The Leeds man has since apologised, but unfortunately for Elliott, the damage has already been done:

It was confirmed that the Englishman would need to undergo surgery on his left ankle:

Liverpool provide Elliott update

And now, Liverpool have confirmed on Tuesday evening that Elliot has undergone successful ankle surgery.

It is added that Elliott will begin a rehabilitation programme with the Reds’ medical team and though he is expected to return to action later this season, Liverpool have not put a timescale on his comeback.

Club doctor, Dr Jim Moxon said this on Elliot:

“Harvey sustained a fracture dislocation of his left ankle during the game. We were able to reduce the dislocation immediately on the pitch and Harvey had surgery today to repair the fracture and ligaments damaged in the incident. The operation was a success so his comeback starts now.

“We won’t put pressure on him by setting a specific timeframe beyond being able to say with confidence we expect him to feature again later in the season following our rehab programme.”
