Liverpool lodge request to have Newcastle clash rescheduled

Liverpool have, on Thursday, lodged an official request with the Premier League to have an upcoming fixture versus Newcastle United rescheduled, it is understood.

The clash in question was due to be played out on April 30th, at 12.30pm.

This comes sandwiched directly between Liverpool’s upcoming Champions League semi-final double-header with Unai Emery’s Villarreal, a fact which Jurgen Klopp earlier today made clear his frustration with:

“If you want to cause us problems you send us to 12.30 at Newcastle.

“I don’t understand it. I can understand that people want to see a football match between Liverpool and Newcastle but I don’t see why any team should have an advantage or a disadvantage.

“The league and the broadcaster really have to try at least to help. We will see. I haven’t heard anything yet. Nobody from BT contacted me yet. But I’d say common sense would tell you that it’s probably the right thing to do to move the game slightly backwards.”

In turn, as alluded to above, those in a position of power on the red half of Merseyside have this afternoon moved to back their manager.

As per reliable outlet The Athletic, Liverpool have lodged an official request with the Premier League to have their trip to St. James’ Park ‘pushed back’, in a bid to aid recovery time on the back of their first-leg meeting with Villarreal.

Wembley trip

Turning attentions towards the immediate job at hand at Liverpool, ahead of discovering the fate of their Premier League appeal, the small matter of a crunch showdown with Manchester City lies in store this weekend.

The Merseysiders are set to make the trip to Wembley to take on Pep Guardiola’s Sky Blues for the 2nd time in the space of a week, on this occasion in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Should Jurgen Klopp and co. emerge victorious, it would keep alive the club’s ongoing hopes of an unprecedented quadruple, maintained courtesy of a comeback 2-2 stalemate at the Etihad this past Sunday.
