Liverpool transfer news
In this article we will bring you all of today’s Liverpool transfer news. Make sure to check back to the site for more transfer updates before the window shuts on Tuesday evening.
Reds ‘genuine contenders’ for Mikkel Damsgaard
First up, Liverpool have been credited with an interest in Sampdoria’s Mikkel Damsgaard.
Damsgaard caught the eye of many with his starring displays at Euro 2020 with Denmark.
This would lead to links over the last few months that both Leeds United and Tottenham were showing an interest in the attacking midfielder.
However, with less than 48 hours of the window left, it appears another club are also eyeing up a move for Damsgaard.
That team is Liverpool. And, according to the Liverpool Echo citing Italian outlet La Republicca, Liverpool are seen as ‘genuine contenders’ in the race for the Dane’s signature.
No potential fee is mentioned in the report, though Leeds United are also still said to hold an interest.
Femi Azeez blow
Elsewhere, it was believed that Liverpool were working to sign Reading midfielder Femi Azeez before the window shuts.
However, it is now being reported that the 20-year-old has sustained a soft tissue injury that will keep him sidelined until later this year.
Such an injury, of course, is a huge blow to any potential transfer move this summer.
Sporting director to leave
Elsewhere, The Athletic report that Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards is expected to step down from his position after the current season once his contract expires.
It is added that it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Edwards signs a new deal. However, the anticipation is that he will depart the club.
Edwards has been sporting director since 2016 and played a role in Liverpool signing players like Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson.
