Liverpool fans will love Steven Gerrard’s Mohamed Salah admission ahead of Anfield clash

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard has not been at all shy in revealing his admiration for Mohamed Salah, ahead of his side’s showdown with Liverpool this weekend.

Reunited

One of the marquee fixtures of the upcoming Premier League gameweek is of course set to play out at Anfield tomorrow afternoon.

The matchup in question will see Jurgen Klopp’s title-chasing Liverpool play host to in-form Aston Villa.

Whilst, under normal circumstances, such a meeting between the sides would not be viewed as an overly significant one, Saturday’s edition has been made to look a tantalising one by the return of the aforementioned Steven Gerrard to Merseyside.

Gerrard, who of course took up the reins at Villa Park last month on the back of a stellar stint in Scotland with Rangers, is primed to face off against the club with whom he made his name for the first time since entering the field of management.

‘The best’

In turn, ahead of the Anfield clash, it has come as little surprise to see the name of the Claret and Blue boss take centre stage in the pre-match chatter.

Speaking during his press conference this afternoon, Gerrard was therefore drawn on the prospect of emerging triumphant at his former stomping ground, and the kind of reaction such an outcome would likely elicit from the Liverpool fanbase.

The one-time midfield standout was staunch in his response, though, assuring that he is not concerned by the prospect of ‘not being the most popular at Anfield’ post-match:

‘That doesn’t matter. That doesn’t matter.’

‘For me, if I’m on the bus heading back down the M6 towards Birmingham and I’m not the most popular at Anfield, so be it.’

‘The noise is for other people to get excited about.’

In comments which will no doubt be received in an altogether more positive fashion on the part of the Reds faithful, Gerrard was then drawn on the talents of Liverpool wide-man Mohamed Salah, of course in the midst of a remarkable campaign to date.

And the Villa headmaster was not at all shy in revealing his belief that:

‘Mohamed Salah is 100 per cent the best player in the world now.’
