Liverpool confirm status of key trio for Arsenal showdown
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has, on Thursday evening, provided fitness updates on a trio of key members of his squad.
The marquee fixture of the Premier League weekend is of course set to play out on Saturday evening, at Anfield.
On the back of the long-awaited conclusion of the latest international break, Liverpool will play host to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, aiming to return to winning ways.
The Reds’ most recent outing saw them fall to defeat for the first time this season, in a 5-goal thriller at high-flying West Ham.
Arsenal, though, will prove no pushovers amid Liverpool’s efforts to keep pace with early Premier League pacesetters Chelsea.
The Gunners currently stand as one of English football’s most in-form sides, having remained unbeaten across their last eleven fixtures in all competitions.
Mane & Robbo updates
In turn, ahead of his side’s highly-anticipated return to action, Jurgen Klopp, this evening, provided a timely fitness update on his squad.
The Reds have of course been forced to deal with a whole host of issues on the personnel front to this point in the campaign, with fresh concerns surrounding all of Andy Robertson, Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane having surfaced over the course of the international break.
The Liverpool faithful, however, need not fret.
This comes with boss Klopp having confirmed that both Robertson and Mane look set to be available to feature from the off versus Arsenal:
‘Robbo was lucky, we can probably say. It was a little bit DOMS, the intensity of all the games he played probably, rather than anything else.’
‘He was smart enough to [make] the right decision, he went off early, which he usually is not doing. But in this case it was absolutely right, and so there’s a good chance that he can be involved at the weekend.’
‘Sadio is fine – painful but fine. Everybody who had a rib bruise knows it’s an annoying thing. But Sad trained here with us now in all sessions.’
The news regarding Henderson was slightly less encouraging, albeit with the English international not completely ruled out of contention for Saturday:
‘Hendo, a little bit more [injured] than Robbo but a chance for the weekend. So we are working on that. It’s not a serious injury but in this short period of time we have to see if he is ready for Saturday. But after that, 100 per cent, and possibly for Arsenal as well.’
#LFC are checking on the fitness of Jordan Henderson and Andy Robertson ahead of #LIVARS, while Sadio Mane is fit and available, explained Jürgen Klopp.
