Argentina were in World Cup qualifying action in the early hours of Friday morning.

Lionel Scaloni’s side were hosting Bolivia as they looked to cement second place in their qualifying group.

And, when all was said and done, Argentina would come away with a comfortable 3-0 win thanks to a hat-trick from Lionel Messi.

After netting a hat-trick against Bolivia, Lionel Messi has broken two records.

Firstly, the former Barcelona man broke Luis Suarez’s record for most CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying goals:

Messi also broke Pele’s record for most goals scored by a South American in men’s international football, with Messi now on 79:

Emotional Messi cries

To cap off a historic day for Lionel Messi, he was finally able to celebrate Argentina’s Copa America win in front of a home crowd, leading to the 34-year-old breaking down and crying:

Then, in an emotional interview post-match, Messi had this to say:

“I was very nervous, I just wanted to enjoy the night. I waited a long time for this. We won the game that was the most important thing and now we can celebrate.”
