Lewandowski and Müller hit milestone marks in dominant Bayern win

Lewandowski and Müller hit milestone marks in dominant Bayern win

Lewandowski cements Bundesliga legacy

Bayern Munich re-asserted their dominance this afternoon after running out 4-0 winners against an in-form 1.FC Köln at the RheinEnergieStadion, but it was star striker Robert Lewandowski who once again stole headlines for the Bavarian giants.

In yet another Bundesliga hat-trick, the Polish star netted his 300th goal in the German top flight, becoming only the second player in the history of the league to reach that marker. The other? Why that will be the very man he is trying to catch at the top; the late, great, Gerd Müller.

If hitting the 300-mark was not impressive enough, the manner in which the Bayern hitman achieved it is on another planet. It has taken Lewandowski just 369-appearances to reach the 300-goal march for a strike ratio of 0.81; just 0.04 behind “Der Bomber.”

But already 33-years-old and out of contract at the end of next season, whether or not Lewandowski will be able to catch or eclipse the legendary German striker remains up in the air. But if anyone can do it, he certainly can.

Bayern clubmate closing on Messi

Robert Lewandowski was not the only Bayern Munich star to reach a milestone as they despatched Steffen Baumgart’s Die Geißböcke along the Rhein, with German comedian-in-chief Thomas Müller hitting the 150-assist mark in his stories career in Bavaria.

In doing so, Müller has pulled within 30-assists of none other than Lionel Messi, who is the only player to achieve more helpers in the big five leagues in Europe than the Bayern icon.

The data behind the Weilheim in Oberbayern-native is an impressive read indeed. According to Understat, Müller has achieved a KP/90 of at least 3.07 across the last three seasons including the current 2021-22 Bundesliga campaign, and at the time of writing, has a direct contribution of over one goal per game (5-goals and 16-assists in 19-appearances) while earning 8-assists in his last eight Bundesliga outings.

Between the pair of attacking dynamo’s, without even considering the influences of the likes of Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sané, and Kingsley Coman, it’s no wonder why Bayern Munich are a true dominant force not just in Germany, but across Europe.
