Lenovo announces Motorola’s ThinkPhone with SD 8+ Gen 1

Motorola’s Lenovo ThinkPhone is here and that’s exactly what it sounds like – a Motorola-made smartphone that looks like a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop.

The ThinkPhone is built around a 6.6-inch OLED display with 2400x1080px resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. The display also offers HDR10+ support.

Inside, there’s a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset paired with 8GB or 12GB of RAM, and you have the choice of 128GB, 256GB or 512GB of storage.

You can have the ThinkPhone in any color as long as it’s carbon black, but make no mistake – this isn’t your ordinary everyday black phone. For starters, he gets a special red key that’s customizable to perform different tasks – open the Walkie Talkie app through Microsoft Teams or open a business or field app. The back panel is crafted with lightweight aramid fiber (which is said to be stronger than steel), while the frame is made from aircraft-grade aluminum. The front is clad in Gorilla Glass Victus. The back features a special ThinkPhone logo.

The ThinkPhone is also IP68 and MIL-STD 810H certified, so it will survive a drop of up to 1.25 meters and a swim of up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.

Motorola’s Lenovo ThinkPhone (try saying that three times faster) has a 5,000mAh battery that supports 68W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. You get the necessary wired charger in the box.

As for the camera, the Lenovo ThinkPhone has a 50MP f/1.8 primary camera that packs four pixels for a resulting pixel of 2.0μm. This camera has both PDAF and OIS. Alongside it is a 13MP f/2.2 ultrawide with Macro Vision. At the other end, there’s a 32MP selfie camera with autofocus.

The ThinkPhone is more than just a branding exercise. It brings true integration with Lenovo’s ThinkPad laptops, including Think 2 Think connectivity, based on Motorola’s Ready For. It allows you to sync ThinkPhone with your ThinkPad and transfer text, photos, copied documents, as well as drag and drop files, share notifications, use the phone as a webcam, and open any any android app on windows laptop screen.

The ThinkPhone will come with Microsoft 365, Outlook, and Teams apps preloaded.

The Moto KeySafe is a separate processor that adds a layer of security – it will keep PINs and passwords, encryption keys and other sensitive data in a tamper-proof environment.

Finally, Moto OEMConfig or Moto Device Manager will allow IT administrators to remotely configure the Lenovo ThinkPhone for business customers.

Think 2 Think connectivity with ThinkPad laptops

Motorola’s Lenovo ThinkPhone is coming to the United States, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Australia, and select Asian countries in the coming months. Lenovo has yet to reveal pricing, but since it’s a B2B device, don’t expect to find it at your local electronics store.
