As per a series of updates from the reliable AFCBell on twitter, Arsenal have made Maddison their number one target, and are ready to meet Leicester City’s 60 million pound valuation of the player if no compromise can be found.

Although the account reports that there has been no breakthrough yet, talks are thought to have progressed positively, with the outcome leaving Leicester 60 million pounds richer, but in search of another creative option.
Southampton “bracing themselves” for bid from Leicester for defender
Meanwhile, all eyes on the incoming front have turned to centre-back, after Wesley Fofana was ruled out until at least 2022.

As a result, the Foxes look stretched at the heart of defence, and a new defender is now the priority. As per TalkSport, one of those catching the eye is Southampton’s Jannick Vestergaard, who has just 12 months left to run on his current deal at St Mary’s.
As per Journalist Alex Crook:
“The impression I get is that Southampton are very much bracing themselves for a bid from Leicester and if that bid did come in, they would have to seriously consider it given that contract situation,”
“They want to get £20m, I imagine Leicester might go in at £15m and test Southampton’s resolve.”
Could Vestergaard fill the gap left by Fofana?
James Tarkowski and Issa Diop also options
Should a move for Vestergaarf fail to materialise, the Foxes are thought to be ready to target two other Premier League defenders. As per the Athletic, they hold an interest in Burnley’s James Tarkowksi, while the Daily Mail has also noted their interest in West Ham outcast Issa Diop.

It is thought that any deal for Tarkowski, however, would prove challenging due to his value to Burnley. Previously, they have demanded 50 million pounds for their defender, the sort of money that Leicester simply do not have to call upon.
