Leicester City submit 15 million pound bid for Jannick Vestergaard

Leicester search for a defender

Leicester City had seemingly done most of their transfer business early in the window, snapping up Patson Daka, Boubakary Soumare and Ryan Bertrand in a bid to push into the Champions League places via a top-four finish in the Premier League.

In typical Leicester fashion, all three signings were savvy buys, with the club spending a total outlay of around 35 million pounds.

However, they suffered a pre-season setback when, during a pre-season friendly over Villareal, young defender Wesley Fofana was stretchered off with a broken leg.

The injury leaves the club light in the heart of defence, with both Daniel Amartey and Wilfried Ndidi being asked to deputise for parts of preseason since.

Foxes bid for Vestergaard

One answer to their crisis could be Southampton’s Yannick Vestergaard. The Danish defender impressed in Ralph Hassenhutl’s defence last season, despite a poor team performance across the campaign.

As per The Athletic, the Foxes have made an opening bid for the defender, thought to be worth 15 million pounds. However, the report suggests that the South Coast side are holding out for 18 million pounds, despite the centre-back having just 12 months to run on his contract at St Mary’s.

In addition, Brendan Rodgers will allegedly have to fight off the likes of Wolves, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham for the defenders signature, which could prove to make a deal even harder to achieve.

With Leicester kicking off their season on Saturday, expect movement on this later this week.
