Leicester City interested in Manchester United midfielder

Leicester City are interested in the services of Manchester United midfielder James Garner, according to reports.

Garner has spent the 2021/22 campaign out on loan with Championship outfit Nottingham Forest where he has impressed on their road to the play-off final.

However, it is expected that Garner will return to Manchester United in the summer and is seemingly garnering, no pun intended, a fair bit of transfer interest.

According to the Mirror,  James Garner is the subject of interest from Leicester City. Leeds United and Southampton are also linked with the 21-year-old, who has scored four and assisted eight at Nottingham Forest this season.

The Mirror add that Leicester are set to try and lure him to the King Power Stadium for 2022/23, though it is not mentioned if that move would be a loan or a permanent one.

A loan does seem somewhat unlikely, though, as whilst Garner does need some Premier League experience, it would not be wise for United to strengthen a direct rival.

As for a permanent transfer, the Red Devils would demand a premium fee, but they may also simply wish to keep Garner for themselves.

Manchester United have already lost Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic this year, leaving them very short-staffed in the midfield area.

Donny van de Beek is expected to play a key role for Erik ten Hag after the pair formed a great relationship at Ajax, but that still leaves just Van de Beek, Fred and Scott McTominay as senior central midfielders.

And with United in the Europa League next season, it could be a good time to assess Garner in some lower-pressure games.
